SUPER Distressed French Coffee Table

I've been having a streak of good luck on Craigslist the past little while. The past three days, I have driven to the same neighborhood, 45 minutes away, to pick up different pieces. Different owners (one was technically a church), but all good stuff.

My first score was this awesome, faux-leather (or "Fleather") top coffee table.

I fell in love with the legs immediately.

To protect the edges of the "feather" I used some Frog Tape.

I wanted to try something different. I wanted a warm neutral (kinda had the tuscan-mediterainian thought process). And I wanted to keep the "fleather".

I know it sounds crazy, but do you sometimes like the "during" photo more than the "after"? Okay, I'm probably alone on this one, but I found this photo of a coffee table being stripped and fell in love.

I just like the texture and character it adds to the piece. I like that it looks "salvaged". I guess that's the theme I was aiming for with my table.

So, I painted everything but the "fleather" with two coats of Omaha Ochre, added some DIY dark wax, and then spent the next 2 hours with water and steel wool scrubbing most of it off. Here's what was left.

I know its not for everyone, but I like it! Here is the "Before and After"

The legs especially remind me of reclaimed handrail balusters.

I'm digging the "old-ness" of it. What do you think? Too much? You can be honest.

Well, if you're like me and you love it, it's available under my Shop tab.
